Childhood:Reborn by Adam Gonzales

"Join Adam Gonzales for the opening reception of his first solo art show, "Childhood: Reborn" at Chalice Abbey in Amarillo, TX on June 26 from 6-9pm. "Childhood: Reborn" will be on display at Chalice Abbey from June 26-July 31. Stop by, see the show, and check out all that Chalice Abbey has to offer! A portion of all proceeds from this art show will be donated directly to "The Bridge" children's advocacy center in Amarillo, TX. Adam Gonzales was born in Pampa, TX in October of 1988. Exposed to years of sexual abuse throughout his childhood, Adam found painting and poetry to be effective means of coping with and healing the effects of his childhood trauma as an adult. Through whimsical combinations of lines, shapes, and vibrant colors, Adam restores life to his once-dormant imagination. “A child’s imagination is a powerful thing. When life becomes dark and gloomy, the child’s imagination takes his hopes, hurts, and fears and ‘recycles’ them into something new. Those refurbished memories are where I draw from in my paintings. I look back at scary moments, at people who wounded me, and I reshape those images and moments into something beautiful. It’s in the ashes of what I lost as a child that I find my inspiration." Influenced by the likes of Pollock, Basquiat, Rothko, and Haring, Adam’s experimental journey into the world art has been a fulfilling and ever-evolving one. Adam hopes to use his art as a tool to bring awareness to the tragedy of childhood sexual abuse and its prevalence in communities everywhere.
